Led by award-winning film and journalism instructor, Michael Hernandez, a select group of students travels around the world each year to explore the plight of the people from developing nations. Students learn how to produce short documentaries on topics related to the people in these countries and share their experiences with a broader audience.
More than a filmmaking project, these trips provide life-changing experiences for the students and opens a new chapter in their ability to understand the world around them. The limits of a textbook-driven education are left behind, and the students become active participants of history, politics and culture on a global scale. This trip and the associated documentary project allow students the opportunity for a unique learning experience that will help them stand out from the crowd when applying for college, and establish them as global citizens.
