Michael Hernandez is an award-winning teacher who founded the Media Arts program in 1999. He earned his MFA in film production from Loyola Marymount University and his BA in Communication from Santa Clara University. Mr. Hernandez strives to empower his students to create meaningful work that has a positive impact on the world. He is passionate about leveraging technology to amplify teaching and learning, and believes in a student-centered classroom where students take responsibility for their work, and learn skills that will help them in future academic and professional settings. Mr. Hernandez is an Apple Distinguished Educator, Adobe Education Leader, PBS Lead Digital Innovator and has served on the National Geographic Teacher Advisory Council, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Teacher to Teacher Advisory Council . He is a Los Angeles County Teacher of The Year, and the Journalism Education Association's first National Broadcast Adviser of the Year. He speaks regularly at conferences like SXSW EDU, ISTE and CUE about digital storytelling, social justice, and innovative teaching and learning strategies.
